Pierre Balmain was a French fashion designer and founder of the luxury fashion house Balmain, established in 1945. He was known for his elegant and sophisticated designs, particularly in evening wear. Balmain expanded rapidly, opening branches in various cities and diversifying into perfume and accessories. The House of Balmain was an immediate success, dressing actors such as Marlene Dietrich, Katharine Hepburn, Sophia Loren, Ingrid Bergman, and Brigitte Bardot. Balmain was made an officer of the Legion of Honour in 1978.
